OATLEYN Kauramaito maidon tilalle

Tiesitkö että liha ja maitoteollisuus on maapalomme suurimmat saastuttajat. Sademetsiä hakataan jotta Eu:n eläimet saisivat soijapapua, jolla he lihoavat nopeasti mittoihinsa. Jos ihminen söisi suoraan soijapavun tarvittaisiin 1/30 osa maapintalasta verrattuna siihen että soija syötetään eläimille.

"Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas "emissions -Worldwatch institute 2009

Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation.

Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, or 51% of all worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.

Methane is 25-100 times more destructive than CO2.

Hi Christian, Thank you for e-mailing us. No, the palm oil in our ice cream is not yet guaranteed sustainably harvested. We are a very small buyer of palm oil, which sometimes makes it difficult to get the suppliers to provide us with the exact ingredients we want. Since the fat in the ice cream is made from a readymade blend of fats of different origin (rapeseed, coconut and palm) it is more difficult to get the supplier to put segregated palm oil into these. We are continuously working with our supplier to get through with our demands, and by the end of this year all our palm oil will be sustainable produced, also in the blends. In the meantime, we pay for a certificate where the money goes to small holders who produce sustainable palm oil to make sure they will continue with their production. Today, about 20 % of all palm oil production is sustainable produced and certified, but only half of this amount is sold as a certified oil. It is very important for us as a buyer to keep the producers of sustainable palm oil in business until they can actually sell their palm oil as certified oil with a better earning. One of the major problems is to get the logistics around the production to keep the certified palm oil separate from the conventional produced oil. The amount of rain forest cut down due to the palm oil in our ice cream is negligible, if any at all, since it is so very small amounts we use. Nevertheless, we need to make sure that the sustainable palm oil production grows and develops - an issue we as a company will continue to engage in.
